    The Gap Payment

The 'gap' is the amount you pay for either medical or hospital charges, over and above what you get back from Medicare or your private health insurer. Some health funds have gap cover arrangements to insure against some or all of these additional payments. The 'gap' amount is determined by your level of insurance cover based on your insurer.

The 'gap' payment contributes to maintaining the clinic's infrastructure, high quality materials and equipment, maintaining the high levels of infection control expected in dentistry as well as paying our staff.

For some services where the gap can be attributed to labour costs, rebates may be available.

The Australian Dental Association has published an article about 'The Gap' which is provided below.

    Preferred Provider

Being a preferred provider is simply an agreement to follow certain treatment-related terms, conditions and limitations, which are dictated by insurance companies and are completely unrelated to the skills or technology employed by the dentist or the needs of the patient.

We believe all health care should be governed by the patient’s needs and expectations, and external third party financial institutions should not control the quality, amount or type of care provided.

The Australian Dental Association has published the following brochure that explains the implications of contracted dentistry on dental care for you and your family.
