Easter is right around the corner, which means, fun with family and friends as well as feasting on delicious Easter Eggs and bunnies and an assortment of chocolates and sweets.
Here are some tips to help you enjoy your eggs and sweets and reduce the chance of tooth problems.
Time is of the Essence: Eat your sweet treats with meals or just after mealtime. There will be plenty of saliva present that will help neutralise acids produced by bacteria as well as rinse away food particles.
Snacking: Having frequent snacks, especially sweet ones, can increase your risk of cavities so limit snacking through the day
Gummy, Hard and Sticky: Avoid gummy lollies, hard candy and sticky sweets. Gummy lollies and sticky sweets can stick to your teeth and can stay in your mouth for long periods of time and can increase the risk of cavities. Hard candy can cause teeth, fillings, crowns and denture to break which can be painful and costly to fix.
Sugary Drinks: Soft drinks, sport drinks and cordial have high levels of sugar and can be quite acidic. Exposures to these sugars and acids can increase the risk of cavities and erosion.
Keep Smiling: Remember to have your teeth checked regularly by a dentist; Brush your teeth twice a day; Floss your teeth at night; And smile, it is an action of love, a gift to people, a beautiful thing.
