During puberty there is increased production of estrogen and progesterone that changes the way our gums react to bacteria and plaque, which can result in more gum sensitivity, swelling and bleeding. Leading up to the special time of the month, some women may experience bleeding gums, mouth sores or ulcers, while others may develop temporary gingivitis.
The Australian Dental Association is currently featuring the following presentation about puberty and oral health.
If you have any concerns about any of the oral health conditions experienced during this important life-stage, please contact your friendly dental team at Smile Hawthorn.
