5 tips to care for your teeth this Easter
Tip 1: Have your Easter Eggs with your meals
It is better to eat sweet foods as part of a main meal. The mouth is then geared to protect your teeth against acid attacks by producing saliva that helps break down sugars, helps swallow food and protects your teeth during your meal.
Tip 2: Drink plenty of water after having your Easter Egg
Drinking water after having sweet foods helps to wash away any sugars and helps neutralize bacterial acids that cause decay. The fluoride in tap water helps teeth form a stronger more decay resistant enamel.
Tip 3: Stick with chocolate
Sticky toffees or lollies can stick to your teeth for long periods of time and can result in prolonged bacterial acid attacks on your teeth causing decay
Tip 4: Come to the dark side
Dark chocolate contains less sugar than white or milk chocolate, is just as delicious and contains more antioxidants than their counterparts
Tip 5: Chew Sugar-Free Gum
Have sugar-free gum after chocolate to stimulate saliva flow to help wash away any leftover sugars or acids.
Enjoy your Easter Chocolates in moderation and have a happy and fun filled Easter long weekend.
