Brush and Floss
Brush twice a day with a fluoridated toothpaste and clean daily between your teeth with floss to remove all the food, debris and bacteria that can cause bad breath.
Scrub your Tongue
People commonly forget to clean their tongue. Use a toothbrush and gently brush your tongue as far back as you can manage or use a tongue scraper to clear them out.
Mouthwash
Over-the-counter mouthwashes can help reduce bacteria or temporarily mask bad breath. Brushing and flossing is what really does the job.
Clean Your Appliances
If you wear removable dentures, take them out at night, and clean them thoroughly before using them again the next morning. If you have a night splint for grinding or a sports mouthguard, make sure you clean it well after every time it is used. If you have orthodontic appliances, follow the recommendations by your orthodontist to keep them clean.
Saliva Boost
Chewing foods like carrots or apples or even sugar-free gum can stimulate saliva. Your dentist may also recommend artificial saliva if you have dry mouth symptoms.
Stay Hydrated
Drinks like soft drink, alcohol and coffee can cause dehydration which can result in a dry mouth. Drinking water is good for your mouth and your body.
Quit Smoking
It is a difficult thing to do, but giving up smoking can have tremendous benefits, not just to your mouth, but to your body as well as your wallet.
Visit Your Dentist Regularly
If you’re concerned about what’s causing your bad breath, make an appointment to see your dentist. Regular checkups allow your dentist to detect any problems such as gum disease or dry mouth and stop them before they become more serious.
