Tooth Whitening

Teeth whitening, when conducted under the supervision of a registered dentist, is a safe, quick and simple way of making your teeth whiter and your smile brighter.

The full range of options for brightening your smile are available at Smile Hawthorn.

In-Office Whitening

Utilizing the popular, tried and tested performance of Philips Zoom!, the In-Office whitening procedure can give you up to 5-8 shades whiter teeth in 1 hour.

Discolouration of teeth can occur due to a number of factors including age, tobacco use, heavily pigmented foods and drink, certain antibiotics, trauma and the accumulation of plaque and calculus (tartar)

At Smile Hawthorn, we assess the cause of the discolouration and advise whether In-Office whitening is suitable for a whiter and brighter smile.

At-Home Whitening

At-Home whitening offers a whiter and brighter smile, in the comfort of your home.

There are 3 simple steps:

  1. Thin custom-fit mouthguards are constructed
  2. A take home whitening gel is provided
  3. Place the gel in the mouthguard and wear it for the prescribed time every night for about 1 week

You can see the progressive colour change at home everyday. You can even maintain the colour by purchasing top up kits and use them in the same custom made trays.

Internal Whitening

Internal whitening is a procedure that is limited to root canal treated teeth.

Root canal treated teeth commonly become a darker colour. External whitening procedures such as the In-Office and At-Home procedures are usually ineffective, as the origins of the discolouration is within the core of the tooth.

The internal whitening procedure involves placement of a whitening agent inside the tooth above the root canal filling to allow the colour to change from the inside-out. This procedure generally has very good outcomes and can be used to lighten root treated teeth prior to crown placement.
